Get Rid Of Your Reading Glasses – Choose LASIK and Free Your Vision

If you’ve visited your Optometrist because you are suffering from fuzzy or blurred vision, and have been diagnosed with near or far-sightedness, you have several options for vision correction. Eyeglasses and LASIK (laser eye surgery) are two of these options. Here’s how they measure up. • Cost: In the short-term, LASIK costs are much higher than glasses because it is a once-off surgical procedure. However, in the long-term, LASIK is the more cost-effective choice. This is because your glasses will have to be updated at least once a year and frames carry a significant cost. Even if you choose to keep the same frames, your lenses can become very expensive according to the types and thickness you require. In the Florida climate, it’s also best to have a second pair in the form of prescription sunglasses to preserve and protect your eyes. • Comfort: While the surgery does include some discomfort and a few days of recovery time, this is a minor and temporary issue for many patients. Eyeglasses on the other hand can become very uncomfortable and inconvenient for patients, especially if they are finding themselves having to go for multiple adjustments. • Personal style: This is where personal choice becomes important. Many people love their glasses because they are a great way to accessorize and add character to their style, but others prefer to have the advantages of naturally perfect vision that LASIK delivers. • Safety: LASIK and other laser eye surgery procedures have an incredibly low risk of complications, and results are often above what patients expect. In fact, it is the recommended procedure for astronauts, professional athletes and celebrities who suffer with vision impairment because it is so safe. 5 Tips For Healing After LASIK Surgery

5 Tips For Healing After LASIK Surgery

LASIK eye surgery can correct a range of eye conditions with a very high safety and success rate.  However, it’s important to follow your eye doctor’s post-surgery advice to ensure that you heal quickly and well. Rest: Resting, napping and not exerting yourself for the first couple of days after your surgery is essential.  This gives your eye tissue time to heal as well as giving your body time to recover from surgery.  Avoid reading, watching TV or using a computer for the first 24-48 hours to prevent eye strain.  No makeup: Eye and facial makeup can easily irritate your eyes or even cause an eye infection that could result in serious complications for your recovery and eyesight, so it’s best to avoid all creams, treatments and cosmetics during recovery. Sun protection: Your eyes will likely be very sensitive to sunlight and bright indoor light after your surgery.  If you can’t avoid the light, be sure to wear UV protective sunglasses.  This will help protect your eyes from sun damage and strain, while helping the cornea to heal. Use your medication: Your eye doctor will prescribe medication to use after your surgery that will help your eyes heal and prevent infection.   It’s important to use these medications as directed.  Find Out If You Are An Eye Surgery Candidate With Our Free Eye Exam  At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, all of our clients qualify for a free eye exam and consultation about LASIK vision correction at our laser eye clinics.  We will give you a full assessment, answer any questions you have about LASIK eye surgery, our state-of-the-art vision correction equipment and the surgery cost.  If you have any questions or want to find out more about our clinic or LASIK, please contact us...

What To Do If You Cannot Have LASIK

What To Do If You Cannot Have LASIK

LASIK eye surgery has revolutionized vision correction for thousands of patients with its state-of-the-art technology, but that doesn’t mean it can work for everyone. Fortunately, there are other solutions available if you can’t have LASIK that will deliver similar, high quality results. What Factors Can Disqualify You From Having LASIK? Pregnancy/breastfeeding Unstable vision Persistent dry eyes Autoimmune diseases (slower healing, increase of risk and infection) Thin or irregular corneas Extreme cases of nearsightedness What Are My Alternatives? If you are not a good candidate for LASIK eye surgery at the moment, ask your doctor about: Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK): Custom PRK is a laser surgery procedure that can be used to fix nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Unlike LASIK, where a flap is created in the cornea to access the surgery site, PRK involves removing the epithelial layer of the cornea and letting it grow back naturally. This works well for patients who have thin or irregular corneas, or suffer from dry eyes, as it is less disruptive to the corneal nerves. Although it has a slightly longer healing time of around 4 days, where you will have to keep your eyes gently bandaged and use steroidal eye drops, it offers a similar dramatic increase in your vision. LASEK: This procedure essentially combines LASIK with PRK, allowing the surgeon to remove less of the cornea during the procedure.       This results in a slightly more comfortable and less intensive recovery, although your eyes will still have to be bandaged and medicated with steroidal eye drops. It is often recommended to patients with thin corneas. Implantable contact lenses (IPL): Very similar to cataract surgery, this procedure allows the surgeon to place a permanent lens inside your eye without removing your natural lens. This is often recommended to patients with extreme cases of nearsightedness or inadequate amounts of corneal tissue, as it doesn’t require the removal of corneal tissue. The results of this suture-free and almost pain-free surgery are dramatic and rapid, but you will have to use eye drops for several weeks.  Find Out If You Are An Eye Surgery Candidate With Our Free Eye Exam At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, all of our clients qualify for a free eye exam and consultation about LASIK vision correction. 4 Questions To Ask Before You Choose LASIK Eye Surgery

4 Questions To Ask Before You Choose LASIK Eye Surgery

Although it is one of the most popular medical procedures in the USA, patients should never forget that LASIK eye surgery is a serious undertaking that should be well researched. Here are some important questions to ask before you choose a clinic: How experienced are the surgeons? Laser eye surgery has been around since the 1990s, so it’s possible to find surgeons with extensive experience in this field. For example, Dr. Alberto Aran is one of the first refractive surgeons in Florida to perform LASIK and has completed over 50,000 surgical procedures over his career, including on his own children. Dr. Adam L. Stelzer is also a highly experienced Optometrist, having counseled and managed thousands of laser vision correction patients Who will handle my pre and post-operative care? This is an important question to ask because it has vital impact on the success of your surgery. A comprehensive pre-operative check up will ensure that the surgeon knows exactly what they are dealing with and how best to solve your vision problems. On the other hand, proper postoperative care will ensure that you get the best results from your surgery. At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, we know exactly how important this care is, which is why it is managed in-house by our experienced and highly trained clinical director. What do former patients say? There’s nothing that truly shows the clinic’s results better than the testimonials of former patients.       Talking to a former patient can help you better understand what to expect before, during and after the procedure. Get A Free Eye Exam And See If You Qualify For LASIK At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, all of our clients qualify for a free eye exam and consultation. How To Prepare For Your LASIK Procedure

How To Prepare For Your LASIK Procedure

LASIK eye surgery, like any surgery, requires that patients make certain preparations in advance of the procedure. Although this isn’t considered to be a major surgery and doesn’t require patients to stay in a hospital for any length of time, it’s still important that you prepare yourself properly. Here’s what you need to do: Ask any questions ahead of time: If you have any questions or concerns, or want to know more about the procedure, be sure to ask your eye doctor during your consultation or at any time before your surgery. This way, you’ll know exactly what to expect before, during and after the procedure. Be clear about your payment plan: Although it is more affordable than ever before, LASIK uses cutting-edge technology to deliver the best and safest results in eye care. Speak to your medical insurance company about whether or not they cover the cost of LASIK and, if you need additional assistance, speak to the clinic about an affordable financing plan. Stop wearing contact lenses: Due to the way they fit onto your eyes, contact lenses can change the shape of your cornea. Your eye doctor will advise you on when to stop wearing your contacts so that your natural eye shape is restored before the procedure can go ahead. Stop wearing eye makeup: In the days leading up to your surgery, your eye doctor will advise you to stop wearing eye makeup, lotions, perfumes and any other products that can lead to eye irritation and infection. Organize a ride home: LASIK is a quick procedure that doesn’t require you to stay over at the clinic, however, you will not be able to drive yourself home. This is because you will have blurred vision and still feel the affects of the medicine given to you during surgery. You will need a friend or family member to collect you from the clinic and drive you home to rest and recover.
