How to Keep Your Eyes Healthy After LASIK

Keeping your eyes in great health after LASIK surgery is very important. After all, you’ve just had a procedure that will make your life more convenient and free you from contact lenses and glasses, so The Laser Center of Coral Gables has compiled a list of tips for you to follow.

  1. Avoid eye strain. Eye strain happens if you work on a computer or read from screens frequently. Many of us have jobs that require us to stare at a computer screen for 8 hours a day, but this can have a negative affect on your eyes and make them feel fatigued. To avoid eye strain, we recommend taking a break every one to two hours. Move away from your screen and give your eyes a chance to relax.
  1. Enjoy a healthy diet. You may not know it, but your diet affects your eyes’ health. Foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, zinc and vitamins C and E encourage good eye health and help ward off age-related eye problems.
  1. Schedule regular appointments with your eye doctor. Don’t think that because you’ve had LASIK eye surgery that you never need to see an eye doctor again. You still need to visit your eye doctor on a regular basis to insure your eyes are in good health.
  1. Wear sunglasses. This is particularly important in South Florida, as the strong Florida sun can expose your eyes to harsh UV rays. Keep a pair with you at all times.
