LASIK Surgery: Why It’s Not For Everyone

LASIK surgery is an incredibly common procedure that enables people to live without glasses or contact lenses, making their lives more convenient and enjoyable.  This is especially true in Florida, where the abundance of outdoor activities such as golfing, swimming, cycling and going to the beach are made less enjoyable when you have to worry about glasses or contact lenses.

Although most people are candidates for LASIK surgery, the doctors at The Laser Center of Coral Gables will meet with you for a complimentary consultation to determine which procedure is right for you.  The type of eye surgery you have will determine on your vision, the health of your eyes and several other factors.

LASIK surgery may not be right for you if:

  • Your vision has not been stable for a certain period of time.  If your prescription continues to get stronger year after year, LASIK may not be right for you.
  • You have certain health conditions such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.  Some advanced autoimmune diseases may prevent you from getting LASIK.
  • You are too old or too young.  It’s rare for people under the age of 18 to have stable enough vision to qualify for LASIK surgery and older people who have cataracts or other eye issues may also not be good candidates.
  • A doctor should determine whether or not your eyes are healthy enough to undergo LASIK.

At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, our doctors will meet with you one-on-one and perform an examination as well as answer any questions or address any concerns you might have.  Don’t trust your eyes to just anyone trust the South Florida leaders in Lasik surgery.    Contact The Laser Center of Coral Gables today and come in for more information about LASIK surgery.  We look forward to hearing from you!
