How LASIK Eye Surgery Can Treat Your Astigmatism

How LASIK Eye Surgery Can Treat Your Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a very common eye condition where the cornea has an asymmetrical shape that causes light to enter the eye at different angles to those entering a correctly shaped cornea.  This results in vision problems. Fortunately, LASIK and other laser eye surgeries can correct this vision problem. Additional Laser Eye Surgery? If you are near or farsighted as well as having astigmatism, and want vision correction surgery, it can be done in one simple, surgical procedure. The ultra-precise lasers used for LASIK and PRK surgery can be programmed to fully correct both vision problems.  Higher amounts of astigmatism, above 3.0 diopters, can also be corrected in a single procedure, although there is a small chance that you may need greater follower up to ensure precision. How Does LASIK Treat Astigmatism? LASIK addresses the problem of astigmatism by reshaping the cornea to make it either flatter or more steeply curved, depending on each individual case. By cutting the cornea to a more symmetrical shape, light will enter the eye correctly, focusing the rays in a single point in the correct area of the eye. This will remove the vision problems of astigmatism, which include blurry vision, distortion, poor night vision, eye irritation and headaches. Costs Of Correcting Astigmatism With LASIK The cost of correcting astigmatism is decided by each individual laser surgery center, so this may affect the cost of your procedure.  It’s important to discuss this with your surgeon during your eye exam. Speak To Our Surgeons Today With A Free, Comprehensive Eye Exam At The Laser Center of Coral Gables in Miami, all of our clients qualify for a free eye exam and consultation about LASIK vision correction at our laser eye clinic.  We will give you a full assessment, answer any questions you have about LASIK, our state-of-the-art vision correction equipment and the cost of LASIK eye surgery.  If you have any questions or want to find out more about our clinic or LASIK, please contact us...

5 Tips For Healing After LASIK Surgery

LASIK eye surgery can correct a range of eye conditions with a very high safety and success rate.  However, it’s important to follow your eye doctor’s post-surgery advice to ensure that you heal quickly and well. Rest: Resting, napping and not exerting yourself for the first couple of days after your surgery is essential.  This gives your eye tissue time to heal as well as giving your body time to recover from surgery.  Avoid reading, watching TV or using a computer for the first 24-48 hours to prevent eye strain.  No makeup: Eye and facial makeup can easily irritate your eyes or even cause an eye infection that could result in serious complications for your recovery and eyesight, so it’s best to avoid all creams, treatments and cosmetics during recovery. Sun protection: Your eyes will likely be very sensitive to sunlight and bright indoor light after your surgery.  If you can’t avoid the light, be sure to wear UV protective sunglasses.  This will help protect your eyes from sun damage and strain, while helping the cornea to heal. Use your medication: Your eye doctor will prescribe medication to use after your surgery that will help your eyes heal and prevent infection.   It’s important to use these medications as directed.  Find Out If You Are An Eye Surgery Candidate With Our Free Eye Exam  At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, all of our clients qualify for a free eye exam and consultation about LASIK vision correction at our laser eye clinics.  We will give you a full assessment, answer any questions you have about LASIK eye surgery, our state-of-the-art vision correction equipment and the surgery cost.  If you have any questions or want to find out more about our clinic or LASIK, please contact us...

Why Athletes And Extreme Adventure Fans Choose LASIK Eye Surgery

Why Athletes And Extreme Adventure Fans Choose LASIK Eye Surgery

Runners, mountain climbers, CrossFit participants and sports professionals all have one thing in common: The drive to push their bodies to their best performance.  Achieving a high skill level in these physically demanding and often contact-driven activities means having the vision to match, so what makes LASIK eye surgery the preferred choice for these individuals? Proven safety record: Although these athletes and adventurers want to push the limits of their physical abilities, they don’t want to risk their sight at the same time.  LASIK helps them achieve perfect vision in a very safe way, using proven, state-of-the-art technology.  At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, our equipment has been responsible for over 15 million refractive procedures worldwide over the last 20 years. Better reaction time and depth perception: Better vision after LASIK helps improve reaction times and depth perception.  This is something that is essential in fast-paced, action-based activities that require quicker and more effective reactions by participants. Environmental factors reduced: Whether your sport or activity takes place on a beach, field, dirt track or in the wilds of nature, you’re going to be facing wind and rain as well as the dirt, sand and debris that come with it.  These can easily interfere with wearing glasses or contact lenses but not with LASIK, as the results mimic natural sight. Minimal equipment: Wearing glasses can be impossible with certain helmets, goggles and gear, while wearing contact lenses isn’t reliable in wind or contact situations.  LASIK surgery means being able to wear the proper equipment with ease and not have the additional expense of custom sports and leisure equipment. Quick surgery, short downtime: When you’re passionate about your physical performance, you can’t afford to spend a lot of time resting and recovering.  For most LASIK procedures, you get permanent results in just a few minutes and only a few days of downtime.  Post-surgery care is simple and easy to manage in the off-season for professionals and most people are back to their routine in just 2-3 days. Boost Your Performance With Perfect Vision With LASIK From Our Miami Eye Clinic At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, we offer a wide range of attractive financing plans that will help you afford LASIK or any other eye surgery.  By partnering with TruVision, we allow participating health plan members to receive significant discounts and special financing on their laser eye surgery procedure. Experience Counts When You Want A LASIK Eye Surgeon

If you’re busy researching where to get laser eye surgery or LASIK, you’re bound to notice that there is a difference in cost from clinic to clinic.  One of the primary reasons for these differences is the experience of the surgeon.  Here’s why: Quick surgery requires refined skills: On average, LASIK eye surgery itself lasts less than 10 minutes, but that doesn’t make it an easy job that anyone can do.  Surgeons hold your eyesight in their hands and have to perform a precision task on delicate tissue.  The more experienced your surgeon is, the faster, more precise and more skilled the surgery. Using state-of-the-art technology to its full potential: The top laser eye clinics work hard to recruit and keep the best surgeons on their staff, and this means investing in the best possible technology for their patients.  When you’re in the hands of a top surgeon, you know that they know the technology inside out and are devoted to giving you the best results possible. Get the best surgery for your needs: Through years of experience, top eye doctors and surgeons know exactly what kind of procedure will work best for your needs.  Whether you need LASIK, PRK, implantable contact lenses or any other surgery, they’ll be able to evaluate your case properly, recommend and perform the best custom treatment plan for you. Treatment From Miami’s Best LASIK Surgeons Is More Affordable Than Ever At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, we offer a wide range of attractive financing plans that will help you afford LASIK or any other eye surgery. If you have any questions about our laser eye surgery procedures, our doctors, our financing plans or the state-of-the-art technology we use, please contact us today and book your free eye...

Why More People Are Choosing LASIK Over Contact Lenses

Why More People Are Choosing LASIK Over Contact Lenses

Perfect vision is a must-have for just about anyone now a days.  Whether you’re a keen sports player, a computer engineer or a student working on a computer, you know the importance of being able to see clearly and accurately.  Usually, people choose eyeglasses or contact lenses to help get them the clear vision they want.   But, with increased financing opportunities and perfected medical precision, more and more people are choosing LASIK eye surgery over these two more traditional options.  TLC of Coral Gables, a leading laser eye clinic looks at why LASIK surgery is the #1 elective surgery in the world. LASIK Puts Safety First LASIK is a permanent vision correction solution that has been proven to be one of the safest surgical procedures available. The procedure has an incredibly low chance of complications and, once your eyes have healed in just a few days, they will be just as healthy and easy to care for as those of someone with naturally perfect vision. Contact lenses, however, do carry certain safety and health risks.  This is simply because every day you are placing a foreign object into your eye.  Even with strict hygiene and eye care, it is common for tiny particles of dust or bacteria to become trapped between the contact lens and your eye, leading to irritation and infection.  Any improper care (falling asleep with your lenses in, not washing your hands properly etc.) significantly increases the risk of infection. LASIK Is Cheaper Than Contact Lenses LASIK carries a high initial cost but, over time, contact lenses and even glasses become far more expensive.  The average cost of LASIK is around $2,500 per eye (the more experienced your surgeon, the better the technology and the more complicated your vision problems are may increase cost).  Conversely, the average 30-year-old will spend up to $30,000 on contact lenses, solution and glasses in their lifetime. To help make the cost of LASIK even more affordable, top eye clinics offer a wide range of attractive financing plans and partnerships that allow participating health plan members to receive significant discounts on their LASIK procedure. More Benefits Of LASIK Of course, LASIK has more than just these two benefits.  The convenience of permanently corrected vision, being able to see anywhere at any time, the natural look you achieve and,  not having to store or deal with your contact lenses are also big benefits that LASIK patients enjoy. Find Out If You Are An Eye Surgery Candidate With Our Free Eye Exam At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, all of our clients qualify for a free eye exam and consultation about LASIK vision correction.  We will give you a full assessment, answer any questions you have about LASIK eye surgery, our state-of-the-art vision correction equipment and the surgery cost.  If you have any questions or want to find out more about LASIK, please contact us...

Can You Afford The Cost Of LASIK Eye Surgery?

Can You Afford The Cost Of LASIK Eye Surgery?

One of the most frequently asked questions by patients wanting LASIK vision correction surgery is “What is the cost of LASIK?”.  Unfortunately, there is such a huge range of quotes that it’s difficult to get a real answer without visiting a leading LASIK clinic yourself for a free eye exam.  Here is some general information about how laser eye surgery is calculated and how to afford this life-changing procedure. What Factors Influence The Cost Of LASIK? How experienced the surgeon is. How advanced the LASIK technology is. The nature and complexity of your eye conditions as well as your prescription. The type of laser eye surgery is best for your needs (LASIK, PRK, etc.) The level of care and attention you receive before, during and after your surgery. Financing Options For LASIK Eye Surgery  Some of the leading laser eye surgery clinics, like The Laser Center of Coral Gables, offer a wide range of attractive financing plans that will help you afford LASIK or any other eye surgery.  We have also partnered with TruVision to allow participating health plan members to receive significant discounts on their LASIK procedure.  Wells Fargo Health Advantage credit card holders are also invited to receive additional affordable financing plans. Although the initial cost of LASIK procedures can be a negative for patients, these costs simply can’t stand up to the mounting costs of contact lenses and eyeglasses over your lifetime.  For significantly less money (as well as removing the inconvenience of wearing glasses or contact lenses), you can experience the incredible reality of 20/20 vision that is so precise and safe that it is approved by NASA and the U.S. military. If you have any questions about our laser eye surgery procedures, our financing plans or the state-of-the-art technology we employ, please contact us today and book your free eye...

What To Do If You Cannot Have LASIK

What To Do If You Cannot Have LASIK

LASIK eye surgery has revolutionized vision correction for thousands of patients with its state-of-the-art technology, but that doesn’t mean it can work for everyone. Fortunately, there are other solutions available if you can’t have LASIK that will deliver similar, high quality results. What Factors Can Disqualify You From Having LASIK? Pregnancy/breastfeeding Unstable vision Persistent dry eyes Autoimmune diseases (slower healing, increase of risk and infection) Thin or irregular corneas Extreme cases of nearsightedness What Are My Alternatives? If you are not a good candidate for LASIK eye surgery at the moment, ask your doctor about: Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK): Custom PRK is a laser surgery procedure that can be used to fix nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Unlike LASIK, where a flap is created in the cornea to access the surgery site, PRK involves removing the epithelial layer of the cornea and letting it grow back naturally. This works well for patients who have thin or irregular corneas, or suffer from dry eyes, as it is less disruptive to the corneal nerves. Although it has a slightly longer healing time of around 4 days, where you will have to keep your eyes gently bandaged and use steroidal eye drops, it offers a similar dramatic increase in your vision. LASEK: This procedure essentially combines LASIK with PRK, allowing the surgeon to remove less of the cornea during the procedure.       This results in a slightly more comfortable and less intensive recovery, although your eyes will still have to be bandaged and medicated with steroidal eye drops. It is often recommended to patients with thin corneas. Implantable contact lenses (IPL): Very similar to cataract surgery, this procedure allows the surgeon to place a permanent lens inside your eye without removing your natural lens. This is often recommended to patients with extreme cases of nearsightedness or inadequate amounts of corneal tissue, as it doesn’t require the removal of corneal tissue. The results of this suture-free and almost pain-free surgery are dramatic and rapid, but you will have to use eye drops for several weeks.  Find Out If You Are An Eye Surgery Candidate With Our Free Eye Exam At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, all of our clients qualify for a free eye exam and consultation about LASIK vision correction. 4 Questions To Ask Before You Choose LASIK Eye Surgery

4 Questions To Ask Before You Choose LASIK Eye Surgery

Although it is one of the most popular medical procedures in the USA, patients should never forget that LASIK eye surgery is a serious undertaking that should be well researched. Here are some important questions to ask before you choose a clinic: How experienced are the surgeons? Laser eye surgery has been around since the 1990s, so it’s possible to find surgeons with extensive experience in this field. For example, Dr. Alberto Aran is one of the first refractive surgeons in Florida to perform LASIK and has completed over 50,000 surgical procedures over his career, including on his own children. Dr. Adam L. Stelzer is also a highly experienced Optometrist, having counseled and managed thousands of laser vision correction patients Who will handle my pre and post-operative care? This is an important question to ask because it has vital impact on the success of your surgery. A comprehensive pre-operative check up will ensure that the surgeon knows exactly what they are dealing with and how best to solve your vision problems. On the other hand, proper postoperative care will ensure that you get the best results from your surgery. At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, we know exactly how important this care is, which is why it is managed in-house by our experienced and highly trained clinical director. What do former patients say? There’s nothing that truly shows the clinic’s results better than the testimonials of former patients.       Talking to a former patient can help you better understand what to expect before, during and after the procedure. Get A Free Eye Exam And See If You Qualify For LASIK At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, all of our clients qualify for a free eye exam and consultation. We will give you a full assessment, answer any questions you have about the procedure itself, the cost LASIK eye surgery and our state-of-the-art vision correction equipment. We can also take you through all of our affordable financing options. If you require surgery, our eye surgeons can offer you with the most advanced procedures to treat your eye condition, helping to restore your...

Inside The LASIK Eye Surgery Procedure

Inside The LASIK Eye Surgery Procedure

If you’re a candidate for LASIK eye surgery, you’re probably wondering exactly how the procedure works and what to expect from the laser surgery process. Here’s a guide from Miami’s best eye doctors. Numbing your eye: Before surgery, you’ll receive some eye drops that will numb your eye. This is the only form of anesthetic you will need for this procedure. Preparing your eye: In order for the procedure to work, your eye has to stay fully open and focused. Your eyelids will be gently held back. Creating the flap: In order to access the location for your surgery, a corneal flap must be created. Cornea correction: Now that the location of your surgery is accessible, your surgeon will use a laser to reshape your cornea and correct your vision. The laser is able to remove (or ‘ablate’) microscopic parts of tissue in order to allow your cornea to focus light correctly onto the retina.       For nearsightedness, the cornea needs to be flattened, while for farsightedness, the cornea needs to be curved more steeply. If you have astigmatism, the laser is able to smooth out your cornea to give you better vision. Replacing the flap: Once your surgeon is happy with the shape of your cornea, the flap will be put back into place to heal naturally. No stitches or bandages are needed and this healing process should take 2-3 days.       Patients can expect minor discomfort for a few days that will be treated with eye drops and rest. The entire surgical procedure will take just 10-15 minutes per eye and patients report exceptional results, quickly after surgery. Get A Free Eye Exam And See If You Qualify For LASIK At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, all of our clients qualify for a free eye exam and consultation with Miami’s leading eye doctors.
