Three Signs That You Could Be A Candidate for Cataract Eye Surgery

As we get older, we may start to see our vision deteriorating and may even wonder if we could have cataracts.  How would you know if you require eye surgery?  At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, we are South Florida’s largest and most respected surgery center.  We offer a range of surgical solutions for all sorts of eye conditions.  But, what are the  signs that you may be a candidate for eye surgery to treat your cataracts.

First, what are cataracts?

This is an eye condition where over time the eye lens becomes more and more blurred, interfering with your vision.  It is a condition that usually affects older people and is caused by a range of other health issues including obesity, diabetes, hypertension and even simply a family history of the condition.

1. You’ve identified whether you have cataracts symptoms
Before rushing off to see a doctor, start looking out for the signs of cataracts.  These include clouded or blurry vision, difficulty seeing at night which steadily gets worse, light sensitivity, double vision (in one eye), frequently having to change your glasses or contact lens prescription and/or the fading of colors.  If you are over the age of 55, you are more at risk,  and if you have any of the above mentioned health issues, you need to be aware that cataracts may develop.

2. A doctor has diagnosed cataracts
We offer free eye exams, so if you feel you have any of the above symptoms, make an appointment and get checked out.  You will be advised on whether or not you have cataracts and whether or not surgery is an option for you.

3. Your symptoms are affecting your life
If you can get by with glasses or contact lenses, then you probably don’t need surgery.  However, cataracts get worse over time and sooner or later, you will not be able to carry out your basic, everyday tasks due to your deteriorating vision.

If you feel you could possibly have cataracts, then contact us.  We offer corrective laser surgery for eyes, including LASIK and implantable contact lenses, as well as much more.
