What To Expect Directly After Your LASIK Eye Surgery

Once you’ve made the decision to have LASIK eye surgery, it’s recommended that you make a few small arrangements in order to help you during your recovery.  Granted, Lasik surgery is quick and painless but it’s important to ensure that you do everything possible to adhere to certain precautions and after surgery care of your new eyesight.  At The Laser Center of Coral Gables our doctors provide as much information as they can to each patient before their operation, but it’s important to remember that each operation is different and each individual reacts differently to surgery.  However, there are certain things you can expect directly after your LASIK operation.

Immediately after your LASIK eye surgery:

  • Your eyes may burn or feel very itchy.  This is a commonly reported symptom and is not cause for alarm.
  • Your vision may be blurry.  This is also normal and temporary.
  • Your doctor may give you prescription eye drops to ease any discomfort over the hours following your operation.
  • You may be asked to wear a mask or a shield over your eyes for the first night following your LASIK eye surgery.
  • You may feel like there is something in your eyes and your first instinct will be to rub them.  Don’t rub them!

Your doctor will likely want to see you anywhere from 24 to 48 hours following your surgery to ensure that your eyes are healing properly.  At The Laser Center of Coral Gables, our doctors are always available to answer any questions following your operation and they ensure that each patient has personalized care and attention.  No two people will have the same experience with LASIK, so don’t become panicked if you experience symptoms you feel are unusual.
