Dr. Alberto Aran
Medical Director
Dr. Alberto Aran is the Medical Director of the Laser Center of Coral Gables. Dr. Aran has been in practice in South Florida since 1986 and has performed more than 65,000 surgical procedures. He was one of the first refractive surgeons in Florida to perform LASIK in 1996. Since then he has performed well over 15,000 refractive laser procedures, the majority of those being LASIK, including both of his brother’s and his very own daughter’s procedures.
Education/Training:
Dr. Aran received his medical degree with honors from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He also completed his post-graduate training in ophthalmology and a fellowship in corneal and external diseases at Tulane.
Memberships:
Dr. Aran is Board Certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology and by the American Board of Eye Surgeons. Dr. Aran is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology for Tulane University School of Medicine, Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor for the State University of New York and Nova Southeastern University. He is an established member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Accomplishments:
Dr. Aran was the first ophthalmic surgeon in Florida to use the FDA approved eximer laser. He was also responsible for training over fifty ophthalmic surgeons in the use of this laser. Dr. Aran is also experienced at implanting the latest premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) for cataract surgery and implantable contact lenses (ICLs) for correcting high myopia. The premium IOLs include multifocal and accommodating lenses which reduce the dependence on reading glasses. He also routinely utilizes toric IOLs that correct corneal astigmatism. All these lenses provide maintenance free vision correction intended to last a lifetime.
Personal:
A dedicated family man, Dr. Aran has donated over 1,000 clinical and surgical hours to the indigent and impoverished since the beginning of his medical profession. The U.S. Congress has cited him for his selfless contributions to the needy. He is listed in Who’s Who Amongst Outstanding Americans, and received the Belen Jesuit Prep’s “Men For Others Award”. He has also received awards from the U.S. Air Force, Bruce Heiken Fund, Florida Lions Club, Dade and Broward County Optometric Associations. Most recently Dr. Aran, as an Eagle Scout, was presented with the prestigious “Hispanic Heritage Community Award” by the South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America.
